Shawn Bjorndal, PharmD, is currently the CEO of RPhAlly and is licensed as a pharmacist in 27 states. Before this, Dr. Bjorndal was the Pharmacist in Charge/Director of Clinical Pharmacy of the OptumRx mail-order pharmacy, where he was responsible for over 70 million prescriptions dispensed. His oversight included pharmacy practice, regulatory, compliance, quality assurance, security, and corresponding responsibility. Dr. Bjorndal led the creation of the company's Opioid Policies and Procedures and also revamped the controlled substance dispensing policies, procedures, and technology. This massive project improved the fraud alert and reconciliation by 315%, reduced the total MME and MME/Rx by 60%, and awarded the company the URAC Opioid Stewardship Accreditation, the first of its kind. Dr. Bjorndal was the liaison between the regulators and the company, which included board of pharmacy complaints and inspections, DEA inspections, and FDA inquiries.
Dr. Bjorndal has extensive pharmacy experience in the community-retail setting, where he was the pharmacist in charge of pharmacies that included Walgreens, Walmart, and CVS. He currently serves on the San Diego Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force and advocates for pharmacy working conditions.
